My mother made great pies. She is no longer with us, I miss her great pies she made every year. Her pumpkin was my favorite, but she made great apple and cherry also,

Great memory Doris.  Isn't it amazing though that no matter how hard we try it never tastes the same as when Mom made it?

I have no trouble with piecrust.  I like Ina Gartens idea of putting the dough in the refrigerator for 1 hour before rollin it out.

My grandma's pumpkin is the best!  I bake at least 4 every year.  Wink

I don't know if it is because I am getting old and can't handle the holiday stress, but my pies were not their usual great to eat treat, just ok.

Mom's is always special and the way to go!
Mom's baking/cooking had something special in it ALWAYS but you can not copy it right even w/ the recipe
All I have to say is.....
Mom's cooking is always the best!

My Grandma's Pumpkin Pie

 

(3)         1 ½ cups pumpkin

(3)         1 ½ cups milk

(1 1/3)   2/3 cup brown sugar

(4)         2 eggs

(3)         1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon

(1/2)      ¼ teaspoon ginger

(1)          ½ teaspoon nutmeg

(1/4)       1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

(2)          1 teaspoon salt

(4)          2 Tablespoons melted butter

 

Mix pumpkin with milk.  Combine dry spices with brown sugar.  Beat eggs lightly and add to sugar mixture.  Add egg and sugar mixture to pumpkin.  Just before pouring pie filling into pie shell(s) add melted butter to pumpkin mixture and stir well.  

 

9 inch pie shell(s)

 

Bake:

 

400 degrees for 15 minutes

Turn oven down to

375 degrees for 45 minutes
