As a child my mom and I were always in the kitchen. We made many wonderful treats together. But, one of the things that sticks out most in my mind is the holiday pie baking. We made apple pies, rhubarb pies, mincemeat pies. The list is endless. My favorite part was making the pie crust. My mom was very careful to teach me exactly how to roll out the crust so it would fit perfectly into the pan. She always let me sample the dough. It's not appealing to me now, but back then I loved the salty taste of pie crust dough! We also made cutouts to decorate the tops of the pies. Mom also taught me how to pinch the edge of the crust between my fingers to produce the nicest edge possible. Baking pies with my mom is a memory I'll treasure forever!

You were very lucky to have had your Mom as a teacher and that you are keeping up the tradition of pie baking. Many times the art of pie making is lost and I'm glad you have not only a great memory but a knack for baking pies.
