My Aunt Mary is a farmer's wife. She is 89 now, but in her prime she baked her rolls once a day for her family and the farm hands. The farm house filled with the rising dough smell and the next morning the aroma of baking rolls filled every one's dreams. My mom, 2 sisters, dad and I used to only make these fabulous rolls on holiday eve days because they take an afternoon to make, an evening to rise and a morning to bake....But it was always worth the work because Xmas should smell like my Aunt Mary's rolls. I continued the tradition, as did my sisters, and every holiday MUST have Aunt Mary's Rolls or we are in BIG TROUBLE with our children. My own daughters have already made their own holiday batches (even in Japan) and vow to continue the Aunt Mary's Rolls tradition into their own future families...Yum Yum Yum...I feel proud to have been able to continue the recipe that, before Aunt Mary, was "brought from the old country" to American to be the family tradition!

Perhaps you would consider sharing the recipe on the swapped recipe area.

Many years ago while living in Iowa, we were in a community with lots of Czechoslovakians. They made the best kolaches. Before moving away I learned how to make the kolaches, also a 2-day process much like your Aunt Mary's rolls. I have made them for Christmas morning breakfast for nearly 30 years, and my sons say the day is not complete without those kolaches.

What a tribute to carry on down the tradition!
