Last year I had surgery on my right wrist and had a cast for 10 weeks. Being right-handed it was twice the challenge that a cast normally is anyway. After weeks of not doing some of the things I missed, like baking,I decided I could manage baking a cherry breakfast cake. Basically it uses a yellow cake mix, a can of cherry pie filling and a few other ingredients, not too hard. I accomplished putting it all together and got it in the oven. I set the timer to make sure it didn't overbake. I took the pan out of the oven and set it on top of the stove. I was feeling pretty proud of myself, doing all of this with a cast up to my elbow and it was turning out beautiful. I decided the cake needed 5 to 10 minutes more so I proceeded to put it back in the oven. Just as it was almost back on the oven rack, it slipped and before I knew it there was cherry pie filling and cake all over the oven! I couldn't believe it. I managed to get the pan back out of the oven and turned it off so I could clean up the mess. After scraping out the oven (& tossing that out) I decided to bake the half of the cake that was still left in the pan & managed to set off the smoke alarm in the process. Fortunately, the automatic oven cleaner took care the rest of the problem before my husband got home. Despite it all, my 10 year old son still rated the cake as being very good & said he'd eat it no matter what it looked like as long as it tastes that good!

God Bless you you seemed to attempt the impossible and even when it seemed a flop you still got the complement from the little one. That's what counts. Go momma Sue.

It still sounds like it was a hit! Our kids are the best aren't they? P.S. - I used to live in Monroe, so nice down there!

Enjoyment of food made no matter what it looks like is a goog feeling to the person who made it as long as it gets eaten by someone..

I spent 2 holidays with arms in casts after elbow surgery. I too got tired of not being able to do things. I had a similar event, only with red jello. I got the meal on the table mostly by myself, had evverything ready when I remeberd the jello. I got up, took it out of the fridg. and amost to the table when it tipped off my cast onto the floor. Red jello with cherries does not clean up all that well. I bet your cake was delicious no matter how it looked. Great story.

I would have felt the same way being cooped up in a cast...and the same thing happen to me! Glad you were still able to cook the other part of the cake and taste how it turned out!

I have been baking and cooking for almost 60 years. A friend asked me what my most perfect pie was and what kind. My answer "I have never made a perfect pie", but all but a couple tasted delicous. I chuckel each time I see a picture of a "perfect pie, cake, cookies, etc". Too me taste is the firstand only thing I go for. And with only one hand "You did wonderful". With two hands some of us have a problem all the time.

Children don't care too much about presentation...it's the taste that counts.

It doesn't matter what it looks like as long as it tastes good.
