The first time I tried to make homemade dinner rolls was a fiasco! I used my mother-in-law's old family recipe, and the recipe called for 2 packages of yeast. All I had on hand at the time was 2 large cakes of yeast. So, I naturally added them, no knowing there was a difference between dry yeast and cake yeast. Anyway, I shaped them according to the directions, and they raised up beautifully! They were so light and had a definite "air" about them. When our guests arrived for the party, I was so proud of my rolls. But to my surprise, when I raised them the second time, everyone had their own "super rolls", or as my husband laughingly said, their own "superloaf of bread". They were "yeasty" to say the least. I was a new bride who married a widower and needless to say, his sons thought they were the biggest dinner rolls they'd ever seen. They never did let me live this one down. LOL
