Rolled Oats

When I was in my early teens and wanted to learn to bake, I followed the receipt, It called for rolled oats and thus I put the required amount on wax paper and commenced to roll them out with a rolling pin, to my amazement they didn't change, so used them anyway,,The cookies was a success and have continued to bake evrysince, although the cake the hens loved it, don't know what went wrong there..

This is where is helps to have an experienced baker explain some of the terms to you.  A lot of things that we take literally are not exactly what we think.  Everyone has things turn out not exactly as planned now and then.  But I am glad you kept baking.

And this is especially true if you're using an old recipe, like the one that calls for "rolled oats"!

This reminds me of myself and a baking adventure I went on.  I was a kid and, since I'd never seen my mother bake cookies, I was doing solo as I tried to make oatmeal cookies.  I was a little unsure whether I should cook the oatmeal before I added it to the batter.  I took a chance and just put it in dry.  My dad loved those cookies and I never told on myself until I possted that here a few years ago.
