I was a senior in high school. My parents were at the beach with some of their friends for the week. I was staying with my married sister that week. My parents called and asked if I would like to join them. Oh, boy, would I? I decided to make a couple of lemon meringue pies to take to them-more to impress the adults than any thing else. I loved to cook even at an early age.. The pies were beautiful. The meringue was perfect. I carried them in a special container so that they wouldn't get messed up during the trip. When I got there I was carefully carrying both pies, one in each hand. I walked up the steps , gingerly carrying the pies. The adults started oooooohing and aaaaahing before I got to the top of the stairs. On the very last step I stumbled and fell flat of my face in the doorway, right on top of both pies. I wanted to cry!! I guess that is what I deserved for being so proud and trying to show off.

That one is right up there with the time I sat on a fresh oil painting. I had a nice design on my slacks ever after!

Boy I bet you gave those adults something to talk about for YEARS! What a great story and at least you can laugh about it now. I have had more falls and dropped more food than I care to remember so don't beat yourself up over it, and ya want to know what? I consider myself a decent cook and a pretty good baker according to friends and family but I can't make a lemon meringue pie even if my life depended on it!! It is my Dad's & hubby's favorite and I have my sister make it because no matter what, something always goes wrong when I try to make one! It has become a running joke because I have made great lemon meringue "soup" and a variety of other messes but never a winner.

Showing off baked goods is something to be proud of. However they need to get to their destination in one piece. LOL
