Whenever my oldest granddaughter comes over, she always asks to bake something. This started when she was 3 and now she is almost 12! When we bake pies, and yes of course all of it is from scratch, even the pumpkin filling , we sing. LOUD!! VERY LOUD!! We sing what ever tune comes to mind and the words are what ever we are measuring at the time. Such as " row ~ row ~ row ~ your boat, only it's one,one cup of flour, put it in the bowl, ....Well, apparently, one summer morning, when I lived in the city where the houses are about 5 feet apart...can you see where this is going?? One time we must have been way too loud because our neighbor, 3 houses down the street came running up AND into my house yelling, Nancy, Nancy, are you alright? She heard Paige and I singing! We had such a laugh out of that!! Her daughter Rebecca was almost 3 years old and I asked Lynn if she could stay and bake a pie! When we were all finished, yes even clean up, we walked Rebecca home complete with her very own "kid" sized pumpkin pie and of course I brought a whole "grown up" pie for the rest of Lynn's family. We don't see Lynn anymore because we moved way too far away. I don't get to have Paige over too often because she is at that age where being with gramma isn't as fun as being at the lake cottage with her grandfather. So, I cherish these memories.
