OHHHH NO WHAT A MESS!
Give us a chuckle
This is the year that I decided to "teach" four small children how to make Christmas cut-out cookies. I was nannying for two girls ages 4 & 6, and they wanted to help me bake so I thought why not?

This is the year that I decided to "teach" four small children how to make Christmas cut-out cookies. I was nannying for two girls ages 4 & 6, and they wanted to help me bake so I thought why not?? The little neighbor girl that was 7 at the time was also there as well as my 3 year old neice, boy what a time we had. The two girls' parents were both out of town and I had access to buy all of the needed ingredients for our day of messiness. All four girls helped get the dough "ready", although I do believe that they all had more on them, the counters, floor, and table than in the bowl! The five of us had a really great time rolling out the dough with EXTRA flour on everything and all four of them thought that cutting them out with the cookie cutters was really fun, we had all different shapes sizes and designs of cookie cutters. But the "REAL" fun began when the cookies were cooled and ready to frost, we made our own frosting in about fourteen colors because everyone had their favorite colors we just had to use. The three older girls had helped at the store in picking out the variety of colored jimmies, colored sugar, red hots, chocolate chips, and piping which filled almost an entire shopping cart alone! The girls' parents came home to surprise them the evening we had all of our ingrediants out, the kitchen and diningroom tables, the counters, the stove, the kitchen and diningroom floors, the walls, part of the ceiling, and the refrigerator were all covered in our attempt to make Christmas cut-out cookies. The four girls were extremely happy about our achievement of making, baking, and decorating our cookies but I don't think that their parents were quite as happy or excited as the four of them. In 1992,1993,1994,1995,1996,1997,& finally in 1998 the four girls and I again all made Christmas cookies together, each year getting less messy and more tasty. I enjoyed my teaching and learning sessions each year with these girls but in January of 1999 the two girls I nannied for both died in a house fire. The neighbor girl moved away in Febuary 1999 so every year since then it has just been my niece and I making our yearly tradition of Christmas cut-out cookies. Who would have thought that four little girls could have given me so much joy and love all because of "A LITTLE MESS"!

what a bittersweet you and your niece have now. You should proud that you brought such happiness to all of the little girls by letting them do the cookies their way and not getting mad about the mess!
