When I was young, my Nana's kitchen had to be the best place in the world. Especially as the holiday season approached and the cookie baking started. My very favorite were her "Forgotten Cookies" which were the last recipe of the day since they were left in the oven overnight. At around 10 years old, I had no patience at all and after the cookies were gently placed on the racks and the oven turned off, my Nana headed to her room to get ready for bed. All I could think about were those cookies waiting for me in the morning. As my bath was filling up, I snuck out to the kitchen and thought she'd never miss just one. Well, there is a reason they stay tucked in the oven over night. It takes time for that wonderful fluffy white stuff to harden. When she found me I had meringue, chocolate chips and pecans all over me and my tub had runneth over! She didn't know which to clean up first, the bathroom, the stove or me! But as Nana's always do she laughed and we just made more the next day but only with a promise I wouldn't even open the oven til morning. My niece was with me a couple of weeks ago and low and behold she can't seem to wait either. The fluff and chips were passed down to her impatience and thank goodness we hadn't started her bath water yet.
