I baked a mayonaise cake and when my husband found out their was mayonaise in the cake he said he wasn't going to eat any of it because it would taste nasty. I finally got him to try a piece of the cake and then he thought it was very good and told everyone hey Cathy makes a real mean mayonaise cake, you can't even taste the mayonaise. I had to laugh at him. And still today he brags about my mayonaise cake.

I have been making Green Tomato Cakes lately. I call them mystery cakes & tell everyone they have to try it before they find out what the mystery ingredient is. Everyone has been shocked when they try it & find out about the green tomatoes. Everyone, so far, has liked it. Several have asked for the recipe

This is my husband's favorite cake, and being a hesitant baker in the first place, I just couldn't imagine success. It is so moist, and so awesome! For the rest of the family, I just tell them it's chocolate, and don't mention the mayo! :)

Yeah, it is better to not give away the "new" ingredient before anyone tastes it.  I can see my face - with tomato or mayo in a cake.  Let it be a surprise! Surprised

This is similar to the reaction I get when I make Chocolate Sauerkraut Cake. The sauerkraut just makes the cake moist, kind of like carrots in carrot cake. I generally let people try the cake before telling them what's in it.
