One Autumn morning I was feeling ispired and decided to try a recipe for homemade apple tarts. The tarts in the picture looked like beautiful little square presents. To top of the final presentation, a little more "sugar" granules were added to the top of the dough which held a warm, sweet apple filling. After a long time of preparing apples and homemade dough and baking in my kitchen, I removed the tarts from the oven. They looked gorgeous, just like in the pictures. The house smelled like baked apples when my husband returned from work and children returned from school. They were so excited for our special dessert! After dinner and with much anticipation, I carefully placed our little tarts on dessert plates for each of us. Wide eyed we all took a big forkful and placed it in our mouths. Within just a moment our happy little faces turned to disgust as we all spit out the "treat". It seems that while I used care to prepare these little packages, I used 2 cups of salt instead of sugar! My son was 10 and daughter was 6 then. They are now 20 and 16 and they still love to tell this story to anyone who will listen!
