My gramma bought me my very 1st Easy Bake oven, when I was 6. I'd get in the kitchen while she was baking, and make my own cakes in it. One day I decided I'd make some biscuits, but the can wouldn't fit into the Easy Bake. Then I got the brilliant idea to put the CAN of biscuits into Gramma's big Easy Bake oven, (I didn't know it was a real oven, LOL). I put the can of biscuits into a pan, stuck it in the oven, turned it on, and sat down to wait! My gramma can into the kitchen just in time to hear the can of biscuits explode in the oven. Wow, when I tell you I got a spanking, I can still feel it today!

A week or so later, Gramma started teaching me how to cook & bake from scratch, and for many years, we always spend lots of time together in the kitchen. Many of my best memories are of spending time with Gramma, talking & baking. I lost my Gramma 10 years ago, at the age of 103, but the memories of baking with her will last a lifetime!

You're lucky that you had a Grama that could teach you to bake. Mine was too crippled up with artherites to be able to teach me. She died when I was about 7 or 8 yrs old, but I still had a good teacher my Mom.

You have some wonderful memories and were fortunate to have her in your life for so long. I hope you are sharing your cooking and baking skills to keep her memory alive.

Wow what a generation we are living in; when I was growing up we always had home baked and prepared meals on our table. I was always helping with the baking and cooking. My mom passed away three years age and every day I think of all the wonderful foods she made for her family with the recipes she had stored in her head; she didn't need a recipe book; she baked so often she remembered all in ingredients.
The up and coming generation only enjoys this when they visit at grandmas.
My daughter-in-laws call me often to ask how do I prepare this or that. I am always happy to let them know so they can learn how to cook some good home made food for their family.
My 7 year old grand daughter tells her mom that your cookies don't taste like Grammy Dots; it really makes me feel good when she says this. Too many miles between our homes; seems family's are often split apart due to the job situation. I always send a box of cookie home when they are leaving. They always comment Grammy Dots cookies are the best.

Great story! It made me think of my grandmother and how she was alawys in the kitchen when you went to visit. I was lucky and lived next to my grandparents my whole childhood. Today I am a grandmother of 2, ages 3 and 7 and I bake with them as well. I hope they have memories of me like I do of my grandmother!
