When I lived in Buffalo, my best friend and I would get together every yule season to bake cookies together. I cranked out spitz and variations with a cookie press until the year she gave me an electric cookie gun. Then she had trouble keeping up with the Nestles chips for each flower. When Debbie made a traditional Italian chocolate cookie make with lard she doubled her recipe, but until we sampled them she didn't know she had doubled the amount of lard twice. Instead of chocolately Italian Christmas cookies, she came up with cookies that tasted like lard. That batch I didn't split with her, but let them all for her and her family.

Funny, very funny. I am always making bread and my son in law is always in line to get fresh bread out of the oven. One time when I made bread I did not understand why the kids were just gobbling it up and the adults did not. Later as I took a bite I thought this sure taste sweet to me. I am dibetic so I said maybe because I don't use sugar it just taste like this to me, my daughter LeeAnn was in the kitchen the next day when I was making bread for supper and she said momma please don't put sugar in the bread today. I always put a couple of teaspoons to help the yeast rise up, well yesterday it taste like you put more than that. Yep, I put it in about three times, I forgot to measure out in small containers like I usually do so I messed that up, of course the grandkids did not complain, they thought it was cake. Thanks for sharing and have a good day, Doinna G.

I can't imagine using lard for cookies.   But I am all for adding more sugar to the bread.  Just sprinkle cinnamon on top & call it a breakfast bread.

LOL LOL LOL -- sounds like some of my errors.

Once I added doubled the amount of shortening required (butter) and my cookies spread into one miserable, thin, burnt mess all over the sheet.

I don't think I've ever had cookies with lard in them.  Great story!  Bet she's more careful now with doubling things lol.

Some time ago a friend of mine gave me a cookie recipe calling for lard.  I've never tried it...... I don't plan on it.
