I remember back in the 80's when I baked an Italian Cream Cake. I used my aunt's recipe, from scratch of course, and the cake looked and smelled luscious! My younger sister spent the night with me, we made the cake the following morning, and headed to Mom and Dad's house for Sunday dinner. I had a fast, black car with a hatchback, so the cake went in the back part of the car. En route to our parents' house, I came upon a traffic light that turned yellow. At first I was going to "punch it", but then saw a police car sitting at the opposite light. I slammed on my brakes, stopped, but the cake kept moving. It slid right off the plate into the back of the car. We couldn't waste this precious cake, and this was before grocery stores were open on Sundays anyway. So, my sister climbed back there, picked up that cake, plopped it back on the plate, repaired the icing with her hands, and we carried on, never telling Mom or Dad about our incident until years later. Mom still laughs about it, thinking of how everyone ate that cake that slid all over the back of my car.
