My Granddaughter Jaimie is the youngest in the family, but at 8 years old she considers herself to be able to do anything her older siblings and cousins can do.
The weekend before Christmas she came to spend the night with us. I had just been looking at my December issue of Martha Stewart's "Living". Inside I found a tear out section from Nestle's titled "12 Months of Baking Memories". Inside under June I found a picture of "Mini Brownie Burger Sliders" I hurried to this site and looked up the recipe, and found these would be a perfect project to do with Jaimie.
I was ready when she arrived. I showed her the recipe and we started the procedure. The cookies went together with no trouble, and they really looked like real hamburgers. Jaimie had helped with everything and licked the bowl and tasted it all, but when the cookies were finished she was a little put off by how they looked. Her comment was "Grammie, these look like real hamburgers" I asked her if she wanted to try one, and she said that she wanted to take them home for her family.
I suspected that she was afraid to taste them thinking they looked too real. In any case she took them home and most disapeared quickly. A few were saved to leave for Santa. Those disapeared too. I must say that Jaimie's brother Max, who is 15, made quick work of most of them. I must also say that Max, who grew 7 inches over the summer eats anything that doesn't move.
Look up the recipe and try it with that little one in your life. I'll bet you will have fun, and make some memories of your own.
