I have always wanted to cook! My most prized toy was an early model easy bake oven. We were poor growing up and to waste food was unheard of. So when my granny allowed me to make muffins (while Mom was gone). I was thrilled. I followed the recipe to the letter. I just didn't know that flour meant all purpose. So I used Baking soda, Baking Powder, and Self Rising Flour. Talk out some fluffy muffins. I was so proud, I buttered one for granny and she bit it and smile. Like I had saw my mother do, I waited to bite mine until the person I was feeding was all setup. Needless to saw by the time I bit my muffin Granny was about to die - using all 3 leveling agents makes one bitter muffin. I started to cry, they were awful and I had wasted the family's money. Granny told me not to worry she would take care of it. She sent me to the barn to get a shovel and we buried the "muffins". She said that somethings were better buried. So a couple of days went by and I was feeling better about the whole thing when the dog dug up the muffins and wouldn't even eat them. That's when I really lost it, because I had to tell Mom all about the diseaster. Needless to say Granny had already told her and my Mother was just waiting on me to come clean. Thank God I did not give up cooking, because I am told by many my muffin are GREAT! I just smile and remember my 1st muffins and their burial.

Good story. We all one time or another had a bad baking experience.

That's a great story.  Thanks for sharing,   Your grandmother was quite original in her way of handling the situation.  She knew how hard you had tried to have a successful experience.

I remember making biscuits with my Grandma.  Mine turned out horrible too.  Thankfully Grandma just made another batch and told Grandpa that I had made them all by myself.  I still can't make Grandmas biscuits to this day!!  At least you can say you've mastered the muffin!

What a wonderful granny to allow you to make a cooking mistake and then help you hide it too!
