My daughter Kim was newly married but still spending Thanksgiving with us. That year she wanted to be more involved in cooking dinner so I let her start on the turkey as I baking coffee cakes for breakfast. She wasn't very confident about the whole thing and very 2 minutes she would ask me what to do next. I had told her to wash it in the sink, and she ask me what parts she should pick it up by - afraid that she would somehow damage it. She was so grossed out by the whole thing that when I told her to smack it on the rear she did so with out question. We all stopped what we were doing and looked at her when she did it. She didn't notice our looking as she was still intently looking at the bird. Then she said "Ok, but what was the smack for......." and I told her it was to 'wake up the flavor'. She said "ok, now what" and we all burst out laughing which calmed her down a lot.%0d%0aNow, with out fail, we all ask her if she woke up the flavor of her turkey at home......
