One Thanksgiving I was having the married kids and grandchildren over and I was making all their special dishes.
The turkey was in the oven, the stovetop burners were full and the sweet potatoes topped with mini marshmallows had no place to go!!
I thought, the toaster oven is empty, I'll put the dish in there, brilliant idea right??
NO, after a short while one the girls came in the kitchen and said what do I smell? I looked in the oven, all was well, same as the stovetop. Only one more place to check, the toaster over. Yep, the marshmallows were ablaze!! I quickly pulled them out and blew out the flame and one the girls said "I've seen Cherries Jubilee but now Mom has invented Sweetpotato Jubilee. We all had a good laugh and now every year the family want to know if we are going to have my famous Flaming Sweetpotato Jubilee.

Our special is a "Smoke Alarm Breakfast". When the kids were home, we would have a LARGE breakfast on Christmas morning, instead of a big afternoon meal.Used to, every time I would cook sugar-cured ham, I would set the smoke alarm off.

One summer, after the kids were grown, my out of state son & his family were here, along with his sister & her family. I had some ham in the freezer, so I called my other son & asked if he would like to come over for a "Smoke Alarm Breakfast". He immediately said, "Sugar-cured ham, you bet". The name stuck.

We live in a different house now & I cook the ham in the oven instead of on the top of the stove, I don't set the alarm off now, but it is still called a "Smoke Alarm Breakfast"
