My daughter and her friend wanted to bake a cake from scratch. I firmly believe that at their age this would be a great expierence. However my daughter has dislyxia and instead of using 1/2 tsp of baking soda she put 1/2 cup. When the girls went to see how their cake was doing we ended up with a volcano in the oven. There was cake every where. Since I believe that cleaning up is part of baking the girls spent about 2 hours scrapping their creation off of the oven. Now at 23 my daughter always reads a recipe at least 3 times and then has someone check to make sure she read the amounts right.

I can see how that would make you paranoid.

Your exploding cake reminds me of the mess we had when my youngest son was in Jr. High and decided to experiment with a whole egg in the microwave. lol

Volcano in the oven not a good thing lol.  You're right,  cleaning up is definitely part of the learning process.  Glad to hear your daughter is doing better now.

Yes, cleaning up is part of learning.  Glad she's doing better now.  You're a good teacher.
