My mother was in the our home town nursing home and they were baking pies to sell at Thanksgiving for those working women who were too busy to bake (me); so I put down for three pumpkin pies. The day before Thanksgiving I went to collect them and they looked just beautiful and my mom said to me that she had helped by adding one spoonful of sugar to each one. I said "No, you mean you added one cup of sugar" but she insisted it was one spoonful. Needless to say we found out later that she was right, the pies had no sugar in them and tasted terrible. The nursing home just laughed and said they had gotten no body else that said their pies were not sweet, but we know the whole story because my mom was in charge of adding sugar. She didn't live long enough to ruin any more pumpkin pies, but our family still jokes about that one. In her day, my mom could bake anyone under the table she was such a good baker.
