Each Christmas we bake over 100 dozen cookies for family & friends! Last year we were consolidating 2 households, including baking supplies. I grabbed the sugar canister, measured the appropriate amount for a double batch of pecan sandies (yummy), mixed them up and popped them into the oven- I removed them right on time and they looked great. I carefully placed each one on the cooling rack and went on to make another type of cookie. Naturally, everyone wandered into the kitchen (nothing calls friends and family like freshly baked goodies!) Everyone stole a cookie, took one bite, looked at each other and politely walked away without saying a word. That is no the reaction I usually get-I'm use to having to make an extra batch of everything just to survive the "tastings". I tried one of the sandies myself-it was AWFUL! It was like choking down a salt lick! I went to the sugar canister and tasted it-that's when I realized that canister contained salt, not sugar! A deer hunting friend suggested I use them to feed deer in the woods. Now I taste the contents of canisters, just to make sure they have what they are supposed to have in them...lol
