My husband and I are a blended family. He has five children from his first marriage and I have two from my first marriage. We all lived together in a house we had built in the country. Every year, the kids and I would get together in the kitchen and they would frost the cut out cookies that I had baked earlier. I would make bowls of different colored frosting and they would spread it on the cookies and then sprinkle them with any combination of colored sugar and sprinkles. One year, only the two youngest were present to help. We covered the table with waxed paper and spread out the cookies and started to decorate them. I takes a little while for the frosting to set up in order for the cookies to be put away. In order to speed up the process, we decided to put the freshly frosted cookies on baking sheets and then put them in the garage (that was attached to the house). At one point our dog, Monty - a large Black Lab, wanted to go outside. We normally left the door leading out of the garage open. As usual, one of us just opened the kitchen door, that led into the garage, to let him outside. It took a couple of minutes before we all looked at each other and yelled "Monty"!!! As I opened the door, and prepared for the worst, Monty met me with multi-colored sprinkles stuck all over his jowels!! I was laughing so hard I could barely speak. Of course the children laughed hysterically when they saw Monty! Fortunately, he only ate about 6 cookies before we realized our mistake. Every Christmas when I pass out cookies to all of the children (who are now all grown) they love to retell the story of how Monty ate the Christmas cookies!
