Put corn in cold water add about a teaspoon to tablespoon (depends on the amount of corn cooking) of sugar. Heat till boiling then turn off the heat, top with a lid, move to the side and by the time you want the corn its done. It will stay warm for a while and eaten as needed. When the meal is over drain corn put in in a container or plastic bag. Refrigerate. When you want an ear or two of corn, remove from bag place in boling water off heat with lid and let it warm. Can be frozen and reheated by boiling water with frozen corn in it, remove from heat, put lid on and let it warm. Serve with butter, salt or whatever you want. (It was taught to me if you add salt to the water you will toughen the corn, add sugar to sweeten and keep it tender. From what I gather once you cook it in the sugar you don't need to add more when reheating it.)

It depends how sweet the corn is, but we wrap ours in foil, put in some butter and salt and cook on the grill for about 20 to 30 mins, turning it often so it doesn't burn.

WOW! I had no clue there were so many variations on how to make corn on the cob! Thanks for the GREAT post, Julie; I learned a lot from reading the answers. I only ever knew the "traditional" way (at least in my family; and spouses', too) of boiling the de-husked cobs, drain, serve hot. We always use butter and salt (just a little) to eat. I would love to try some of the ideas I've read here - thanks to all for taking the time and effort to post an answer!

Our favorite way to fix corn-on-the-cob is to put it into the microwave for about 6 minutes for two ears. Be careful when taking them out, they are very hot, but the silks come right off. Then add your spray butter or whatever you like.

Was it sugar you weren't supposed to add to the water because it'll make the corn tough?

We soak the cobs in cold water for about 15 minutes with the husks still on the cob.  We do remover the tassels.  We then put the corn on the grill and let them grill for about 15 to 20 minutes turning the corn every so often.  Delicious!!!!!!

Wow! I never realized either that there were that many ways to cook corn on the cob!!! I do agree though....it is delicious when nice and sweet and tender! Thanks, Julie, for starting this great post!!!

Neat, Ann! I like your family corn cooking recipe.....sounds like a quick "get-er-done" way to do it!!!

I usually put a big pot of water on to boil while I go husk the corn. By the time I'm done the water is usually boiling. Pop the corn into the pot for about 10 minutes. Take to the table and spread with lots of butter, topped with a bit of salt. Delicious!!!

I, too, put corn into the freezer for winter. I've heard of some people wrapping up the whole cob, husk and all, and freezing. But that takes way too much room! I boil it for about 3 minutes, take off and set on large platters to cool, and then cut the kernels off with a sharp knife. Put just enough for each meal into Ziploc bags, label, and freeze! We love scalloped corn during the winter!
