We had just come back from visiting with my family and I had my mother's wonderful cinnamon roll recipe as a keepsake of the trip. It was Saturday morning and we had gone to the store to get all the ingredients - time to get them in the oven! Let's see the directions say to mix and let rise, ok, that's done. Now, let rise again, shape them into a roll, cut and place in buttered pan. Ok, that's done. The aroma of the baking rolls was almost more than we could bear...finally, time to take them out. WHAT! They were flat as a pancake and the topping was hardened to the pan. Family came running into the kitchen when they heard the oven door close - just then I scraped the disater into the garbage. The look on their faces was shock! Why was I throwing them away and what was that thud? Well, let's look at the recipe again...yeah, let them rise once, oh, shape into roll, cut into pieces, let rise a second time, then bake. After you take the rolls out of the oven, pour topping over rolls, let cool a bit and serve. I never got up enough courage to try that recipe again. My family just had to go visit my mother to get her delicious cinnamon rolls.
