Don't feel bad, this has happened to most of us at one time or another. Distractions are a fact of life...

Last year, I put a pan of rice on th stove to cook, went outside to call my boys in, and my neighbor came out to talk. Thirty minutes goes by and yep, you could smell burnt pan down my driveway. Needless to say, the rice AND the pan went into the trash.

My own worst burned food was beans, I was hungry for old fashioned ham& beans . I had put the beans to soak before heading off to school. ( I was teaching at the time) When I came in that afternoon, I put the pot on, Turned the burner on high and sat me doen to read the paper and promptly fell asleep. The cat woke me with alarmed meows. When I checkd the pot, the beans resembled charcoal nuggets. We had no beans for supper that night.

One way I found not to burn food is to set a timer and carry it in you packet. That way if you get distracted the timer will go off and remind you of what you have on the stove or in oven.

I hate to admit this but, I have boiled eggs down to the shell! Once I boiled them so long w/o water that an egg burst. That was one stickey kitchen!

I put a pan of water to boil on the stove and forgot. I left and when I came back home it had boiled dry. My fiance was baking some garlic bread the other night and had it on high broil. He was making a salad and forgot the bread until he smelled burnt bread and smoke was coming out of the oven. It's no big deal to burn something. We are only human and we do have things on our minds. The bright side is there was no fire.

Burning food in the kitchen is just a part of life I think. Happens to the best of us. I do like th eidea of the timer in the pocket. I set a timer, but if I leave the kitchen I don't always hear it. Great idea.

When it comes to hotdogs, that is my specialty. (That is the way we like them - burnt)

Name one chef or home cook that hasn't burnt something.
