When I was a little girl, my mother would make the birthday cakes for our family. Now my mother was not really into cooking, so to liven things up, she would add drops of food coloring into the cake batter. She made some of the wildess colored cakes. You never knew waht to expect when you cut into one of her cakes. Green and blue swirls or a brillant purple cake. It was great fun.

What a wonderful mom to not be intimidated in the kitchen. I'm glad that she made your birthdays fun (and memorable).

Great idea which I've never thought of. Thanks for sharing and I'm going to add food coloring to my next cake.

That reminds me of the first cake my son "picked" out for himself. He was 2 and wanted a green and blue cake. So he got a green and blue cake......he loved it. His grandparents and aunts and uncles were quite surprised when I cut into the cake...thanks for sparking a great memory.

Wow thanks for sharing that brings back memories when I used to make one egg cakes all the time when I was a teenager and added food coloring. My family loved the colors but think it was the blue that reminded them of mold, lol, but they still ate the blue cakes. I will have to make one for my grandchildren.
