My mother thought she had failed in my upbringing because I didn't care about growing flowers, baking cakes, decorating the house and many other feminine things. I had other things on my mind. I liked boys. Oh, how I like boys. When my senior classs was going on a trip all of he girls were supposed to take something along so we wouldn't have to spend money on food. Money was scarce. I really didn't want to make a cake but decided I needed to. I made a devil's food cake with a 7 minute icing. I worked hard at it to be sure it was okay for the trip. When the layers were baked they looked funny. Not funny haha but funny strange. It had specks of white in it and was bumpy. We decided we had better taste of it and when we found out that someone had put the rice in the flour cannister we knew what was wrong. I have been teased about making that rice cake for 55 years. My siblings have never tired of torturing me with their taunts. I just was not much of a cake maker. I have since learned to double check the ingredients before I put them in the bowl. How did this make me feel? I really could not have cared less. I had a hot date waiting for me to finish baking.

Isn't that what siblings are for? This sounds like the average american family sitting around the table reminiscing about the goof-ups that we made as kids (and probably as adults also). Thanks for sharing

I remember your cooking this cake. You should have told about the polka dotted cake you made one time, too.

I thank you so much for the comments. I had three sons and it was great that I did because I still am not much of a cake maker and I could not have shown a daughter how to do fancy baking. Mine is not pretty but boy it is good. I have taught my grandchildren how to cook. They all make a mean peanut butter delight. They are magic. The way I can tell is they immediately disappear. Happy baking!!!!!!!!!

So funny!! I love how nonchalant you were about the whole thing. Didn't really matter 'cause you had a hot date, hahaha. Love it!

Again I thank you for the positive comments. There were many times when I did things that would bring laughter into our home. Enid Baggett Godwin, NC 04/23/2010
