I made the best sweet rolls that their is because I pulled them from the oven and hade time to iccing them and then they were none left on the plate.

My Grandmother made a sweet bread for Christmas every year, similar to rolls. Thanks for the memory!

I am well known in my area as the cinnamon roll lady and popcorn ball lady. I always know what I am going to be asked to bring to get togethers. Cinnamon rolls or crescent rolls made with the same dough. And I make hundreds of popcorn balls between Halloween and Christmas.

Debra-- Isn't it fun to have a nickname ? At church I'm called "Cookie Lady" by the kids and adults.

Right before Halloween I made some popcorn balls for the first time. The recipe called for candy corn mixed in so they sure were cute but didn't taste all that good. Please, would you give us a recipe?

I don't mind sharing recipes at all. I have had these recipes for 30 years. I will post the popcorn ball recipe this evening. As for the cinnamon roll recipe, it's 2 type-written pages, so I'm not sure what the best approach is for that recipe. Let me know your thoughts and I am happy to give it to you. The dough also makes fantastic crescent rolls and it has mashed potatoes in it. Look for the popcorn ball recipe in a little while.

Here is the popcorn ball recipe I promised:

1c. sugar
1/3c. water
1/3c. light Karo
1/4c. (1/2 stick) margerine or butter-do not use tub kind, only stick
1tsp.vanilla
1tsp.salt

Fill a very large bowl, like what I always heard my grandma call a "dishpan" with popped corn, after spraying the bowl and a large spoon with cooking spray. I can only guess about 7-8 quarts. Put all other ingredients in saucepan and cook over medium heat, without stirring, until it reaches 250 degrees on candy thermometer. Quickly pour over popcorn and stir until all is coated and it has cooled enough to make into balls, just a couple of minutes. Spray or butter your hands and make into 10-12 popcorn balls. Slip each into zipper sandwich bags or wrap with plastic wrap.

SinceI can't really tell you how much popcorn to use, I suggest starting with 6-7 quarts and have more on hand to add if needed. Good luck! I wish I had everyone's Email to send you the cinnamon roll recipe! It is actully a little over one type-written page. Any ideas?

Thanks Debra -- I'll try that. And especially thanks for a recipe that uses the precious candy thermometer.
I love that thing and have confidence when I use it.
When I use it I can do amazing things like divinity.

I too wish we had a way to talk Private Message to each other....... we NEED that.

If they ever get it back, I will be happy to share. The recipe came from my brother-in-law, 35 years ago,who was a chef at the time. It has been a treasured recipe of all my friends and family. This brother-in-law just passed away in October after only a 10 week bout with cancer. So it makes the recipe even more special.
