When our kids were growing up, they called it "Yucky Sunday Dinner". The food was always special and something they would like, but they had to sit at the dining room table and practice good table manners while eating with the family. I expected a lot out of them, but I have always believed that good manners can become second nature, and then you won't embarrass yourself when you are out to dinner. It is how I learned to have good manners, and I figured it could work with my children. My mother and grandmother were much harder on my sister and me than I was on our kids.
