I wanted to be sure to get it right, so I made a practice cake before I created the one for my son's birthday party.

There is nothing better than home made birthday cakes. These sound very cute, I'm sure your boys were thrilled!

How sweet!!  I hope your boys loved the cake.  My grandkids went through the Picachoo phase, so I know how enamored they can get.

I just taught an a Girls High School how to decorate cakes.  What a fun time all of us had.  They enjoyed eating the icing while they learned the techniques.  I enjoyed seeing them giggle!

When my son was in second grade I made 3 cakes for his class Christmas party.  I made a snowman family.  I baked "bodies" 3 nights in a row (I was a single mom who worked 4 10 hr days).  And then the night before the party I assembled the cakes.  I used the pyrex mixing bowls to bake the bodies in.  The only part of the cakes that wasn't edible was the brim of the "snowboy's" hat. I am probably the most inept cake decorator but this project was fairly simple.  Just a lot of work.  My son was so proud of the cakes.

I don't know how long ago this was but I bet your son remembers the cakes.  I bet he has no idea how long it took or the trouble you went through to make them but I will bet anything the look on his face made it all worth it.

So glad it all worked out.  I'm sure that the whole class loved it too.

I'm sure they loved the home made cakes and they still have such good memories of them.

on sunday was my grandmothers birthday and before that day we were wondering what we would do to surprise her and we amazingly baked a black forest and it came out to be perfect because we have never tried to bake a black forest and it was a success we were so happy and we did not want her to see it.
that day came and we surprised her she did not expect it because she did not remember it.she was very grateful to us and she was very happy and we knew we could bake another one on the next birthday party.
actually for your boys that was a very big challege.every cake to me is specialSmile
