The Gingerbread house is so last year!!  Have you seen the new gingerbread creation?  It's a train.  Won't the grandson be happy to see that.  I can hardly wait for him to be here

The Gingerbread house is so last year!!  Have you seen the new gingerbread creation?  It's a train.  Won't the grandson be happy to see that.  I can hardly wait for him to be here for the Holidays so that we can get it together!  Last year we did the house, and he thought it was fun (so did I!), so I'm sure the train will really please hime since he is "into" Toy Story!

But we love Gingerbread Houses, it's become a tradition. We do different candy decorations, it still is so much fun

I did a train with one of my grandsons when he was about 8.  He is now 17.  He loved it, and had fun doing it.  The same year I did a house with his sister, who was 6 at the time....yes she is 15 now.   This year I will be doing a village with their younger sister who is now 10.  Target has a number of kits available for all of these projects.

When I was a pre-teen I would spend the weekend at my aunts house and we would make, from scratch, 6 gingerbread houses. It was something I will never forget however I stopped going through all that work when my boys got older.  My grandma used to make a gingerbread church complete with stained glass windows and pews!! I have the instructions in her hand writing....priceless!

Well, we made gingerbread village, and it turned out OK.  No pictures though, as my granddaughter had a birthday party to attend and she had to leave before the whole thing was finished.  I  sent her home with village on her lap in her mom's car and the unused bags of candy at her side.   I wouldn't be surprised if the candy was eaten before it could make it on to the houses. She had fun and that was the main reason we did it.  LOL.

Decorating a Gingerbread House to look good is very hard to do.
