It was the habit of my mother to bake on cloudy, rainy days, and since we lived in Oregon there were many of them. On this particular day of this particular memory, I was sitting at the kitchen table with my face against the window waiting for my sister to come home from school. I wasn't old enough to go to school so when sis wasn't there then home was a quiet place. On this day, the rain pattered against the cold winter glass and dribbled long lines from casement to casement. I saw my smeared reflection in the window and sighed.%0d%0a%0d%0aBehind me, at the stove, mama was baking peanut butter cookies--her favorite! When my sis got home mama would give us a glass of cold milk and some fresh-from-the-oven cookies. %0d%0a%0d%0aI must have sighed one too many times, because mama came to the table and set a small plate before me. I looked at the two cookies and the glass of milk and then back at mama. She smiled and pointed at the cookies. "Why don't you eat these while you wait for her." Mama said.%0d%0a%0d%0aI remember grinning from ear to ear...and I saved one cookie for my big sister.

Great memory. This was a story that hit home. I was the oldest of 5. Mom always had something warm for after school and it was nice to sit on the floor with my sibs and eat it as though we were on our own private picnic. My sisters have passed and there isn't a day go by I don't think of them and the days of our youth...Thank you for sharing...Have a Pink Day!
