My son absolutely loves pizza. So I told him one day that if you love a food so much you should learn how to make it.

We found a recipe for pizza dough. We used yeast and let it sit. My son was fasinated with how it got so much bigger. Then we spread it onto the pizza pan.

Next came the sauce, we cheated a bit with some store bought pizza sauce, but he did tell me that it came from tomatoes. He spread this on, "I'm like Emril you know that chef," he told me.

Then we grated some cheese and he sprinkled it on. He was so pleased with his work he wanted to eat it right then, but he let me put it in the oven after realizing it wouldn't be as good raw as warm and fresh baked. We watched it bake and then took it out of the oven to cool. Now it was pizza time and it was our pizza, not L,ittle Ceasers or Pappa Johns and it was really good!

I enjoyed this time with my son and we now make homemade pizza often.

How old was your son when you had this first pizza making adventure?

Anything the young ones learn to make is great, and pizza can be a healthy choice.

Great way to teach them to cook is when they really love a food.

Awesome!  We make homemade pizza every Friday night!  We moved from NY to NC where there is no such thing as "real" pizza!  I make the dough and hubby tosses the pie!
