My most favorite baking memory would have to be that of my Mother. She always dreamed of having her own cake business. She never had money to take any classes, my father and her worked all the time, with little money for extras, nor did she ever work from a commercial kitchen, however; it all started with my oldest daughters 1st birthday. By the way now its over 30 years ago. Mother went to the discount store, bought her a book, mixed up a home-made cake recipe, and didnt like the taste of the icing, so she worked untill the icing tasted good in her opinion, she said that if it tasted good to her, then it would taste good to everyone else. I just remember her working on perfecting that first cake, and how delightful the decorating and moistness of the cake was. For many years untill she no longer could really ice cakes due to arthritis, she made many cakes, from birthday to wedding. She always told me the difference in her cakes and those you order elsewhere, was with each cake, no matter how many she may have been working on, the secret was the "tlc" she put into each and everyone of them. And I myself, always remember what she said and the look of those beautiful and trendy cakes. I find myself telling the same thing to my family and friends, when they aske why my cakes, cookies or any dish I prepare tastes so much better. I just say well it all begins with a lot of "tlc" in everything.

I always say you can taste the love in homemade cooking and baking. It just tastes better because you know the person who prepared it loved what they were doing and took very special care every time. It's pure joy to cook and bake. It's what's always kept me balanced.
