My mom was the best at teaching my sister and myself about life and to cook. She would set us up on the counter when we were small, while she was cooking, baking or cleaning the kitchen and give us something to "cook". Mom didn't try to fix what we did she let us do it all by ourselves. Mom would watch and offer advice and directions. As we grew older we would just talk and cook. It was her way of keeping up with things. Mom didn't work outside the home, but she knew that there was a difference between quality time and quainty time. She would later tell me when I had children to stop what I was doing and play or just spend time with them. That they would be little only so long. That's just what I did. I realized later that is just what she had done when I was small. All those times of baking, cooking or cleaning and talking were the very best times. My mom died when I was only 26 years old and had just had my 2nd son I miss her every day, but have such wonderful memories made in the kitchen. I did the same thing mom did with me and my sister with my 3 sons. We would talk and cook or bake and keep up with what was going on in their lives. They are now grown and all 3 are great cooks. Best of allI am now able to do the same thing with my grandchildren. Those are the very best times, and we are making wonderful memories. Thanks mom,
you started a tradition and didn't even know it. I love and miss you.

You have made wonderful memories with both your mom and your children. I did the same when my sons were little. They are grown now and both know how to cook and are such a big help. They love traditions----like to continue the things we did while they were growing up. My husband has MS, I had total knee replacement in June and am having the other knee done on Nov. 5. They have been a blessing. Last Christmas I could not do much because of my knees bothering me. My husband could not do the cooking, but the boys took over. We always had the fish on Christmas Eve and they took care of that. On Christmas we always had my brothers over for dinner, brought food to my sister-in-law who is paraplegic, her aid (she has someone with her 24 hours a day) and her elderly tenant. My sons did all the cooking, brought food to the others I mentioned and did all the cleanup. With all the changes at the present time, we are making more memories.
I am sorry to hear about your Mother, but you have good memories and are making more now with your grandchildren.

God bless you.

Your story brings tears to my eyes. Mothers are so special. My Mom was 41 when I was born and she lived to be 87 years old. We enjoyed our times together and memories are a blessing.
