My grandchildren had just moved to my home, almost four years ago. The youngest,Jakob had just turned one and the oldest, Kyla had just turned three, they are also the youngest grandchildren of five.

Kyla and Jakob's First Baking Experience

My grandchildren had just moved to my home, almost four years ago. The youngest,Jakob had just turned one and the oldest, Kyla had just turned three, they are also the youngest grandchildren of five. I can't tell you the joy I felt having them close to me. The problem was they didn't know me, so I had to think of a way for the three of us to bond. What better way than to bake cookies. As I pulled chairs up to the cabinet Kyla began to get excited. She helped me mix the cookies, of course with my help. When it came time to put the Nestle chocolate chips in, the children together placed each chip in one at a time. They had so much fun. After placing the first cookie sheet in the oven Kyla and Jakob wanted to watch them bake. Placing their chairs at a comfortable distance, we waited. I began cleaning up our mess when all of a sudden Kyla starts yelling to me "Gammy the cookies are growing, their growing out of the oven." These were just the first of the things we have baked since then. Jakob is now five and loves baking as much as his sister.
The memories we have made together the last four years are so precious to me, it makes me feel so giddy inside.
I love them so much.

That was a good memory. It's important to have family near you and have time with them. They'll never forget about the times they spent with gammy in the kitchen. The kids grow to fast you know. Enjoy every moment.

I can only imagine how you felt. They were probobly bright eyed and anxoius to eat the cookies. What a great way to bond and make memories!!!

What a great memory!! I am expecting my first granchildren (yes I said children - it's twins!), and I am beyond thrilled!! I cannot wait to make my own memories with them. I baked with my sons (no daughters) and we just found out that the twins are a boy and a girl (my wish is fulfilled). I only wish they lived closer (almost 8 hrs. away). but hubby and I will make many trips there since he is retired.

Having your Grandchildren so close is a wonderful experiecnce. I am also fortunate to have mine two blocks over, so they can come and whip up a treat in no time. Enjoy and thank you for sharing your story.

what a nice story. I have 2 beautiful Grandchildren who live just 3 miles from me! I love baking ciikies with them. I think that my 3year old Grandson would rather be cathing frogs!

That's such a great story. Wait until they get older!! My oldest granddaughter Heidi, now eats all the dough before we can bake it.. I really have to watch her.. Of course she is 15 now. The younger ganddaughter are fun to bake with too. They are 13 and 10. The older girls just get instructions and I let them do almost all of it. Sometimes I help with the measuring, but mostly I just sit back and let them do it. They are becoming quite competent.
