As a dietitian, I didn't want our 3 sons to buy the "fast food" lunch in high school. So my strategy was simple - keep putting homemade chocolate chip cookies in their lunches. I did this for 8 years running. It's simple to do, just make the dough once at the beginning of the week and bake fresh as the week progresses. A funny thing happened at graduation. Two of our 3 sons showed me entries in their yearbooks referencing the cookies. Apparently, even in high school, kids notice homemade cookies and are impressed and still barter for cookies. Who would have thought?

Homemade is always better then from the store.I never have
too many for my grandchildren. The first thing they do when
they came in is go to the cookie jar.

Both of my sons learned to make a batch of cookies quickly - no mix needed.  While in college, my older son bartered several favors for a pan of cookies.  My younger son impressed his in-laws with his baking abilities. Since his wife is also an excellent cook their family is well fed.

Memories! My children still talk about the homemade brownies. I always share recipes with them so that they can forge their own memories too!

I have heard that sometimes, those delicious cookies have been used to ward off "bullies".
