Six days a week we usually ate well with whatever Mom cooked that day. She always had something good to eat, and leftovers were something we didn't complain about. Everything was good. But Fridays w

We used to eat at home and you ate what Mom prepared.  Eating out was a treat and not done very often.  We also all sat down at the dinner table, unless you were too sick to get out of bed or had something to do as we got older.  We went out to the country, where the orchards were located and picked fruit according to the season and then I helped Mom do the canning.  That fruit was our dessert during the rest of the year.  But, now, where are the orchards?  And then, with the houses built now (and, I live in a condo), where would you store what you canned?  Times have certainly changed.

LINDA S; I agree, that is the way familiesusedto live& worktogether. I have my Great Aunt's journal( family history) in which she relates many such typical (for them) stories . I believe that if more families worked together like that, they would have money to pay bills on time, time to eat meals together & know the joy of being part of a loving family, instead of roomates, struggling to get  their " share" of
whatever they think they need. Money mouthWink

How well I remember those days.  We also grew our own food and raised chickens.  We all had our chores to do.  I helped my mother can anything imaginable.  It was great for those winter days.  However, we NEVER went out to eat.

How spoiled so many people are these days and how much they are missing.

It certainly made you appreciate everything you had, and it was a treat to go to town and eat out.  Great memories.
