I was given a recipe for old Fashioned Lemonaid Cake at the family gathering after my grandmothers funeral. I was told that is was her favorite, a friend of hers at her church and made it and gave me the recipe. I have now realised how special family recipes are when handed down. I am starting that as a family tridation and hope that you will to.

Family recipes are so important to the future of a family. Many recipes that my Mom made I am going to pass down to my daughter and daughters-in-law. I even have some of my Mom's baking dishes which cannot be replaced. You and I are so lucky to have such wonderful family traditions. Thank you for your story.

Can you post the recipe and possible photo either on this page or in the Message Boards?

It is so nice to be able to match the recipe with the story.

I have a large white binder with all our family recipes, make copies when anybody asks for a favorite and plan to hand them down.

I have a binder and 2 recipe card boxes that my husband and sons found when the cleaned out my Father-in-laws house after he passed away. The were my Mother-in-law's recipes that were written in her own handwriting who had passed away 10 years before. Though I made many of they recipes, these were special, being in here own handwriting. I found many of the recipes in duplicate and laminated them. I am making special albums with pictures and am giving one to my son and his new wife and saving one for my younger son for when he gets married. My new Daughter-in-law never had the pleasure of meeting either of my husbands parents so not only will she get these special recipes written in her husband's Grandma's handwriting, but will have pictures of her and her husband to bring them more to life. It will also bring back wonderful memories for my son that I know he will cherish because he was so very close to them.

Great story. I too have made both my kids their own recipe books with all their favorites in them. Including some of my moms and grandmothers recipes. This is a great family tradition.
