My mom and dad would travel once a month on Sunday's to my grandmothers house 1 hr. from home. My two older brothers and I would stay home.

On those special Sunday's my oldest brother Mike (11 yrs. old), Greg (10 yrs old) and (I) Sue (9 yrs. old)would get out our children's cookbook and make a full 2 or 3 course dinner. We would make items like Mullagens Stew (with biscuits, stew meat and vegetables), Cool Aid for drinks and Apple Brown Betty for dessert.

After we cooked dinner and baked dessert we would get out our children's table and chairs set and put a table cloth and napkins on the table. We put a vase with plastic flowers on the table for decoration. My brother Greg and I would sit down at the table and Mike would come out of the kitchen with a towel over his arm and a pad of paper and pencil and take our orders like we were at a real restaurant. Sometimes I would teas and order something we did not cook just to make him say, "I am sorry we don't have that on the menu, you will have to choose something else". Once Greg and I placed our orders we would all get up and go into the kitchen and help dish up the meal. We would then hurry up and go sit down and Mike would come out of the kitchen with our main course and our drinks. We would all three sit down and eat dinner together. Of course when dinner was over we all helped clean up the table and return to our seats (all but Mike). Mike would then come out of the kitchen and take our orders for dessert and bring them to the table. We would all sit down once again and enjoy our dessert together.

Mom and dad would come home from grandmothers house and we would tell them what delicious meal and dessert we prepared. They where so surprised that they acted jeoulous and said they were going to stay home with us next time and let us cook for them.

It is sad to say my brother Mike only lived to be 15. Greg is grown now with his own family and I with mine. How I wish we could just for one day go back in time to one of those special Sundays.

A truly wonderful family remembrance, and happy, positive thoughts of your brother.
