I grew up in a single parent home, but no matter how much money we had for bills, Mom always managed to take the time and manage money to allow for celebrating our birthdays, from the time me and my brothers were little until we were grown with children of my own. Those celebrations, no matter how small, will always be part of the fun of my childhood memories.

My mother was a single Mom also and made sure mine and my brother's brithdays were celebrated with love. She would always bake a cake even if that was the only thing she could do for us that year. Her birthday: Feb 13th. Oh how she wished it to be the 14th. I miss her so much. We are blessed.

This story touches my heart. Its the things people DO for each other that makes life special...not what we buy. I couldn't tell you what presents I received for my 7th birthday, but I do remember the butterfly cake my mom made by cutting the round cake into halfs and decorating it with colored frosting to look like a butterfly.
