My mother was boiling eggs to make deviled eggs for the 4th of July picnic when my sister and I had a mishap with our bicycles. Mom was ministering to our scrapes and bruises when we heard a series of loud explosions emanating from the kitchen. When we went to investigate, there was egg splattered everywhere, because the water had boiled out. Mom exclaimed they were really devilish eggs for sure now and we all had a good laugh cleaning it up.

I don't know what's going on but I have let loose the egg bomber on the last three attempts at boiling eggs. Must be that time of year, finally starting to cool down after a long hot summer.

Someone gave me a clue as to how to cook hardboiled eggs - Put the eggs in a pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil. Put the lid on the pot and turn off the heat. Let sit until cool (somewhere around 25 - 30 minutes). This so much better than the time that my mother put the eggs on to cook and laid down to take a nap, forgetting about the eggs until the pot boiled dry and at least one of the eggs exploded. (By the way, I have a cooker that I use in the microwave and I love it. I don't know how the electric cookers work, but probably as good as the microwave cooker.)

Too funny! I've never had that happen, but I'm sure it was just blind luck LOL. I also use the hot water trick to make eggs. Only bring to boil, then turn off and let cool. Seems to work most times, but I have had some where the yolks turned green on the outside. Have a great weekend everyone.

I remember the first time I boiled eggs. I boiled them so long that when I peeled them they were like rubber. You could have probably bounced them off the floor!!! What a learning experience.

I started to chuckle when I read your post. My son's fiance wrote me a note last week that said, "The eggs - they wish to be evil." I made her the deviled eggs she wanted - but your eggs were truly evil.

I had eggs "explode" in the microwave once. Never again will I use the micro to quickly cook an egg. I have an electric rice cooker that my husband would put raw egg in the steamer basket, start the rice cooker and when the rice is done--so are the eggs. The shell beautifully too!

Funny story I bring mine to a boil turn off heat and let sit 20 mins. Rinse in cold water and pray they all peel good. Best to have older eggs instead of super fresh ones for hard-cooked eggs. Love them.

I laughed at that funny story .... a good way to start a day.

Like Sharon, I start my eggs in cold water, bring to a good boil, cover and remove from heat.
I let mine set there for 15 minutes, then drain and fill pan with cold water.
Then I roll each egg to break the shell completely, then peel.
And Sharon's advice about using an "older" egg is the best ....
