I had a recipe to hand make little apple stuffed tarts with homemade dough. When complete, the tarts were folded up to resemble "little presents or packages". I spent hours making these desserts and was so excited to serve them to my husband, son who was 9 and daughter who was 6. They came out of the oven looking perfect. I had followed the recipe to a "T" with the apple filling calling for a cup of sugar and the presents sprinkled on top with a little more sugar. As I served the packages to my family, they all smiled with anticipation. All at once, they took their bites. And...all at once their faces turned to horror as they spit it out. I had used SALT everywhere the recipe had called for sugar! My son is now 21 and my daughter is 18 and they still bring this story up now and then. I couldn't have made these packages more "memorable"!

Something similar to this happened to my sister when she was young. Someone had dumped the rice into the sugar canister. She made a cake and didn't notice the rice in the sugar. When everyone tried to eat the cake they crunched hard pieces of rice. We don't let her forget this either. She is now 72 years old.

I heard that used to happen a lot. Good thing sugar and salt now usually come in different designed containers.
