Preheating the oven seems like a waste of time.  But in cooking it can be the most important step.  The difference in the food is really amazing if you cook it correctly!  LOL

Preheating the oven is important.  However, most of us have forgotten this step at one time or another.

My oven pre heats so fast that I don't even turn it on until I'm ready to put the muffin batter into the pan.  I figure no sense wasting electricity.  some ovens take forever.  The stoves that I use when I teach the adult ed baking classes are bad that way.  Those are really new stoves and mine is over 30 years old.  I have a corning top (white) that I love.  They don't make them anymore--probably because they lasted too well.

My 2 year old oven  takes 10 min. to preheat. I guess newer is not better.

I only preheat my oven when I bake. If I am making a meat dish that needs baking until tender, ie mushroom soup pot roast--the meat goes in and the oven get turned on.

My older sister always told me not to pre heat the oven, that it was a waste of $$. I have just added bake time to foods that don't appear done, it's just the same $ too me it seems.
