I've been cooking for over 50 years & still have not mastered gravy 100%, it always tastes good, but there are times when it is just not thick enough (that is why it is good to make a well in the mashed potatoes )
GRANA here;MyGrandfather Charles, a pharmacist/chemist is credited, by the family,as being the inventor of " instant" gravy; the kind that coms in a pkt. It has saved me more than once by allowing me to make"perfect' gravy ( w/ my eyes shut" & one hand tied behind my back!I have occasionally gone the old fashioned route & made my gravy using pan dripings.It wasgreat but I felt a traitor to the family.MyDad's little grocery store used to sell instant gravy pkts w/ the family name on them leading me to believe the story despite my Father's tendancy to pull legs& stretch the truthI hope it's true; it would explain where the family's money came from
