I WAS IN THE 6TH GRADE WHEN I DECIDED TO BAKE A BIRTHDAY CAKE FOR MY BROTHER. I WAS NOT EXPERIENCE THEN AND DIDN'T ALWAYS FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE T. WHEN I PREPARED THE CAKE MIX, I DECIDED TO SKIP THE 'GREASE THE PANS" PART. LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT THE CAKE STICKS TO THE PAN AND WE HAD A DISASTER. MY DAD HELPED ME SALVAGE THE CAKE WITH LOTS OF FROSTING AND CALLED IT THE "MOUNTAIN CAKE" --IT SURE LOOKED LIKE A MOUNTAIN--THE MIDDLE PART WAS LIKE A MOUNTAIN TOP. IT TASTED GOOD AND FROM THEN ON, I GREASE THE PANS.

Hehehe...Every cook I know has learned that lesson at least once...i always forget the "light dusting of flour after you grease"...I don't usually care for that flour bottom, but with moistier cakes like Carrot Cake it really is a necessary thing to do...lol...Happy cooking! Have a wonderful Pink Day!

We called those "earthquake" cakes and mixed the cake with pudding. It didn't make it seem so bad that the cake stuck in the pan.

It's the thought that counts! :) Glad the cake tasted good anyway....that's the important part!

We all make mistakes here and there. I do have one tip about flouring the pan. If it is a chocolate cake, you can dust the pan with cocoa and not four. It will help prevent that flour bottom for chocolate cakes.

So true about learning lessons by making mistakes. My mom used to say, " You're not trying if you're not making mistakes."
Thanks for sharing your story, very cute!

I hate having the cake stick to the pan.  But I love to eat the part that is left in the pan.  Plus I get to use "extra" frosting!  So it is all to the good!  LOL
