Today is our youngest sons Birthdaym he's 44, so I baked two pies, 2 chess,(1 regilar and 1 with peanut butter and chocolate chips) to take to his surprise Birthday Party at his house, about 1 hr. away. I decided I'd surprise my husband and bake him a Blueberry Pie, the pie took longer then it should of to bake. I was getting ready to leave and checked it, it wasn't done so I thought I'd leave the oven on and pick up a few things and turn it off just before leaving. You guessed it! Out the door I went, 3 hours later I thought about it, when we got home 5 hrs later it was really "burnt" :-(

Thank God your house is still intact. It could have been worse and I'm sure your husband had tastings of the other desserts at the party.

Gloria, the house smelled like burnt pie,:-(, but to our surprise it wasn't filled with smoke?!? The rim of the crust was deep brown, the top was the color of cocoa, were the juice and bubbled above the crust, it was black. After it cooled, I removed a piece of the top crust and tried to get out some of the blueberries, one popped out and it was as hard and black as a little piece of coal.Yes we were lucky and did "Thanks God".We were really gone from 3-9, 6 hrs, and it was in the oven for a total of 7 hrs, I was wrong the first posting. We are still laughing about it. Granna2

I am glad that this was a story to laugh about.  Leaving things in the oven is one of my worst fears.  But I bet it took hours to get the burned smells out of the house.  Did you have to throw the pie pan away?

My mother had something on her kitchen range and went outside to chat with a neighbor ..... a long chat.... a long, long chat.
The cabinets above the range burned, the kitchen curtains, very much damage.
I'm so terrified of fire I won't even leave a burner on when I go outside to check the mail

Sometimes it's better to do a thing as soon as we think of it.  It's so easy to forget.
