This is little more than a great big brag session with a little baking thrown in. Having waited for years for a grandchild, (patiently and silently mind you, I am not the mother or mother in law type that nagged to my son or daughter in law to give me a grandchild), my hubby and I were blessed mid October with a sweet tiny granddaughter AND her twin brother. They were born just over 5 weeks early so they were a little small but thankfully very healthy. They all live 7 hours away so my husband had search for and found a short term, furnished apt. that we could stay in to be near our son and d-i-l and the babies once they were born. He is retired and I am disabled so we were asked if we could come and stay for several weeks and help out ( we double checked to be SURE this is what they wanted) once the babies arrive. I emailed the apt. complex and asked what was meant by a "fully equipped" kitchen on their web site as I would be doing some cooking and baking for the kids to freeze some food for dinners once we were gone they don't cook much in their house) in it when I was at the kid's house helping out with the babies. My husband could not remember what he saw in the cabinets when he toured the apt.  They promptly wrote back and said all the basic pots, pans, measuring cups, spoons, utensils and items you would need in a starter kitchen. I figured great I would just bring my knives and cuisinart and I would be set. We get to the apt and while my husband is carrying in our bags and supplies, I immediately go to check out the kitchen, small but nicely set up. I start opening cabinets and I find 1 medium fry pan, 1 small fry pan, 3 pots a small with lid, a 2 qt with lid and a dutch oven size, no lid. a 9 x 13" glass baking dishing and medium size casserole dish.  A small 6 x 8" cutting board some basic utensils and a colander. Not a baking sheet, pan muffin pan whisk, mixing bowl, I could go on and on. I am glad I can laugh about it or I would just cry!! My daughter-in-;aw does NOT cook at all and has more than that in her kitchen. So I borrowed things from her, bought a few things from a dollar store and have baked muffins, apple crisp, cookies. Made chicken cutlets, spaghetti sauce. But best of all I have been able to spend time with, change and feed two of the most beaitiful, tiny babies I have ever seen, my grandchilfren Elyssa and Ryan!!
