What are your feelings about church bells?

At Mass yesterday, the pastor asked the congregation to e-mail their feelings about church bells since someone in the community feel they disturb the tranquillity of the area! I guess, in my opinion, that birds will be next since their songs aren't always pleasant as jays or crows.

I love to hear the church bells tolling!! When my oldest son was a wee little boy we had 2 churches the next block behind our house. He would stand on a chair in our bedroom so he could listen to them as they rang. He would point to them and say "my bells mommy". That same little boy has been in Heaven for 8 years now and every single time I hear church bells I say...."your bells David".

Sadly, there are poopers at every party!!

Add some Junebugs to the mix and there is an entire orchestra outside my house!!

I feel like church bells are part of the idea of calling people to Christ. It's a good sound, a great sound.

Don't drive fast and peel your wheels near MY house - lol lol

i live in concord de and theres a church and about 6 houses and they play the bells on sunday i love the sound of them .. every one that lives here does to its better hearing bells then gun shots like some people do

Church bells - what a peaceful sound. There are none close enough to our home at present but when we go to the closest larger town there are bells in several parts of town.
We are fortunate to have an internationally recognized carillion in one of the parks. Each year there is a week long festival with internationally famous carillioneers. Many people come from all over just to hear them.
A pox upon those sourpusses who think of bells as anything but beautiful

I'm sure that church was there before the party poopers moved in. And besides, how often could the bells possibly ring? Sounds like somebody has other issues and maybe needs to move lol.

We have a town about 20 miles from here that has at least a dozen large churches and several smaller ones within a five block area. Maybe the poopers could move there lol.

I love church bells. There aren't any close to us but, when we go camping we hear
them every Sunday morning. We are up higher so we can see the little town and its
church steeple and hear the church bells. What an awesome sound!!!

There is nothing more peaceful than Church bells! The Church bells in my Mother's and Grandma's hometown would play a hymn everynight at dinnertime - it was beautiful!!

I have never lived close enough to a church that rang it's bells regularly. But I can't imagine complaining
about the sound. If I did want to hear them, I would not move into that area. I certainly do not think they
should be silenced completely. Some people will complain about anything and everything.

I love to listen to the bells. They soothe the mind and help to keep the mind on the good things in life. Unfortunately, we used to play the bells at our church; but there were some neighbors that objected to them, and rather than make enemies of those people, the Pastor said they should not be rung. Thankfully, there is another church about a mile from us, and we can still hear theirs, if the wind is blowing in the right direction and you listen very carefully. God bless that church!!

Where I grew up, the church bells rang not only for Sunday Mass, but daily at noon & 6:00 PM. When I moved away, I really missed them. I have heard some beautiful sounding ones in my travels & do not know who would object to them. I have heard some people hate wind chimes, maybe these people have what is called a tin ear & need ear plugs

I feel church bells ring out hymns to the Lord. I love them and I feel especially at peace when I hear them.

The house my husband and I moved into is down the street from a church that rings it's bells often. I don't hear them much anymore as it is one of the "daily sounds of life". But I love the sound of the bells when they toll. I find it a peaceful sound and one that reminds me that in this country we are free to worship as we please and we do not have to "hide" houses of worship.
The people that are complaining are like the ones that move near an airport then demand noise mitigation or people that move from the city to the country then complain about the farm down the road. (the animals smell or the fertilizer smells or the tractors drive too slow.) I think people like that are not happy and will find something to complain about no matter what. Maybe they should step into the church, they may find the bells are a balm that will soothe their soul.
